We just lost another of the greats. Dudes, how many nights did we spend listening to Red Clay? I even seem to recall an ill-advised attempt at covering it- no small feat for a band with no horns and only one member that could actually play jazz! But such was the musical inspiration embodied by Freddie Hubbard. Freddie, thank you for the music.

Wow, what a sad day indeed. That baseline he wrote for Carter on the title track of "Red Clay" is by far the greatest baseline ever conjured up. Freddie's work in the late '60s and throughout the 70s is some of the best jazz in history. One of my alltime favorites. Man, I'm tired of all these greats dying on us!
I should probably say thank you to you, Jared, as well as our friend Nimah, for introducing me to Freddie in the first place! Thanks!
The only thing worse than our cover of Red Clay was our cover of Umi Says...
